Around Scornicesti
This isn't a traveler's log. It's just a statement of the thoughts and impressions of a wondered through her hometown, in the first day of April. It's a journal page with reflections about a small town forgotten, abandonned to oblivion.
About two months ago, I've read an article which was saying that Scornicesti is "just as renouned as New York for Romania's post-revolution generation."
Today I've been walking around, thinking, asking myself what is it that people really know about Scornicesti? The answer was easy to find: it's just the name that is known because it's the name of the hometown of Nicolae Ceausescu, Romania's dictator.
in the April sun,
contemplating my small town,
I write down my past
I've thought about its history, its past and present and about what it represents today for Romanians. I know that the older generations have divided opinions and the young ones might not even know the name.
on history lane
each step I've taken today
has been recorded
"Welcome" sign -
in the April morning sun,
road to Scornicesti
At the end of my walk, I knew Scornicesti is known only by name nothing more. Not anymore.
Sccornicesti, just a name
written in our history...
what about the place?
I really enjoyed your haikus. Thanks for sharing them and your thoughts about Scornicesti. I interested in reading more. (:

Sounds like quite a reflective walkabout! :)
ReplyDeleteThose are really beautiful views on the video. Looks like a nice place to spend a vacation.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the view as you walk around and share on cue.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Sccornicesti before, looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIf that video was pictures from the city, then it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat haiku and gorgeous video.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting piece. I lived in Romania for 22 years, but have never been to Scornicesti. Have seen images and documentaries on TV numerous times in relation to the place being Ceausescu's hometown. There was his childhood house, I think, functioning as a museum for some time. I wonder what the people of Scornicesti think about the history of the place, and about it being used in the same sentence as the dictator's name. If it even matters anymore. Probably not.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. This remindes me of "home."
Silvia.
Beautiful video. I'm packed... lets go!!

ReplyDeleteRomania, would be a very interesting place to visit. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful video! I love the haiku—wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to meet you during the A - Z Challenge. Romania looks beautiful. :)
I have never visited Romania, but would love to someday!
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful video. Your haiku's were beautiful and evocative. Scornicesti will survive the dictator's taint as mortals are fleeting memories against the eternity of the land.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful walk, and I loved how you mixed the haikus into the narrative. Thank you for this great post!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need to see our hometown through a stranger's eyes to really see it. Kind of like I don't notice the dust bunnies in the corners of my kitchen ceiling because they've been there so long...
